Project Description:
The work includes infrastructure improvements to the existing Digestion Complex. Similar
Improvements for five existing anaerobic digester include; submerged fixed concrete covers,
Foundation support, mechanical draft tube mixers, sludge overflow systems, and all new digester
gas piping. Improvements for a sixth existing anaerobic digester include; dual membrane digester
cover, pump mixing system, sludge overflow system, and new digester gas piping. Work within
existing digester complex buildings include; various modifications to sludge pumping and piping,
all new digester gas piping, valves, and safety handling equipment. Modifications for the digester
gas handling building include; two new digester gas blowers, digester gas piping, digester gas
heat exchanger, and chiller. Improvements for hauled waste acceptance include new below grade
concrete receiving and settling tanks. HVAC, electrical, instrumentation & control, and other
miscellaneous upgrades will accompany the Digestion Complex infrastructure improvements. All
work is to be completed in accordance with the contract documents, specifications, and Plan File
Nos. 514-001/163. Work is to be done in and around the Digester Complex located at the Des
Moines Wastewater Reclamation Facility, 3000 Vandalia Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50317.

Project Update:
The contractor is currently working on the hauled waste tank improvements, digester 5, and digester 6. Digesters 5 and 6 are currently out of service and are being deconstructed.
